"Compliance Improvement Activity" – Do you smell the Audit and are you Ready?

Health and Human Services (HHS) is stepping up their audit enforcement of HIPAA Privacy & Security starting in Nov. 2011. The audits are intended to test the protocols of employers. HHS intends to complete up to 150 audits by December 2012. For more details, click http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/privacy/hipaa/enforcement/audit/index.html/

The audit is intended to cover a wide range of entities including health plans of all sizes. Health plans will be notified in writing and they need to respond within 10 days!! The onsite visit by HHS will occur within 30-90 days after the written notice, so get ready.
